Digging deep is key.
The bible is no exception.
Our knowing that the bible was not written to us but for us is very important to remember. So we must be in the mindset of the people that it was written to!
My recommendation for doing this is reading from two of the most knowledgeable in this field of the old testament(covenant). John Walton and Walter Brueggerman have multiple books out to get your feet wet or even soaked in this new understanding of the scriptures. Most of thete books are thick bit it will be well worth your time.
