It’s the eternal purpose,people!

I sometimes wonder how christianity has gotten where they are by what I read in the scriptures.

Maybe if you read it enough times you start to see things that weren’t there the first time, or second time, or third time. But it is that continuing searching that it starts to show that underlying theme or storyline that come into focus for you. You just wonder with the pharisee’s and the saduccees that were known for their reading of the scriptures over and over again, why they didn’t see things that were connected to each other that would spin itself into a deep and amazing story for mankind. Maybe their ritual, or tradition was to just ‘say’ the scriptures was just a mundane chore for the day? Maybe, this was the problem with Israelite’s in that they were to much in the tradition of reading the scriptures that their was no meaning in it.

I have come to rely on history. In history we see not only actual events of time, but of the social events before and after said big event. It is how we base our understanding of mankind in all thru time. It is in this realm of digging into history we see even more and more of people in their own stories, communities of understanding everything around them and their actions and beliefs to those events. We, right now are doing the same thing, we just might not know it, we are acting and reacting to all the events around us, and to some extent to things far away from us with advent of the internet.

I have become over the last twenty years have been that forensic detective that doesn’t just ‘see’, or ‘read’, or ‘hear’ something without digging past the obvious things. This should be the mark of Jesus follower, digging deeper every day that you are a christian. What I have learned thru the years of studying the bible is that it is a goldmine of information about God and his people and his world. I once was asked ‘How long should it take to read the bible?’, the usual ‘church’ answer would be the 1 or 2 year plan that the church gives out. But this is not the ‘idea’ for what the bible is. It is to ‘know’ the Bible! My answer to the question was “50 years”, I think my answer may have been to short in its answer, tho! We can only scratch the surface with God. But I do believe that we should ‘see’ what God is telling us and showing us on what his intentions for us.

The models of what we have perceived to be the existence of God’s people in the world and how they are to be in the world, and how they are to meet, act, or to exist has be skewed in that we have not understood the eternal purpose of God.

I want to point out that this is because of a few things. One is the misunderstanding of God’s eternal purpose in mankind. We are very, very limiting of God. We have put God into thousands of little buildings all across the U.S., when the scriptures says the opposite. God will be, and is Everywhere. This was and is His Goal. But we have failed to see this in His New Covenant. It is actually following the first covenant of the Jews with God in that we were supposed to build a temple and place God there!? What’s with that? Just maybe we have not reached the understanding of the New Covenant with Christianity yet? I don’t know either. But I do ‘see’ the dawn of the light coming into the world.

The second thing, is that the failure of christians failing to read and to study the scriptures in a way that is done in a more deep and investigative way to find the truth of God. We have realized way to much on the person in front of congregation to give them snippets from the bible, as does the media on the national news. Look how that has gotten us! Until we realize that as a God believer that we dig deeper and deeper into God’s word to know him. This is not going to be a easy fix, but it can be done with the fortitude of God’s people. Where two or three people are gathered together, there also is God. He will guide and direct us in his word. I strongly suggest in having a small group of people that are in agreement in your quest in finding the truth in the word of God.

The third thing is maybe(it is) the glue that holds this all together. Jesus died on the cross, rose again to be with the father, it is in this action that God has sent someone to follow us in our journey here on earth to unite God’s people together. It is the “Holy Spirit”, this is our “Christ is in Us, We are in Him” fact that we seem to forget or just don’t understand. I tend to think the latter. Christ living ‘in’ us, We ‘in’ Him means we are in fellowship with Him, and We are ‘WORSHIPING’ Him. This is the design of God’s ultimate purpose! Why do we not see this? The Holy Spirit is our temple, church, body, bride whatever you want to define it as. (It is not to have a fellowship with other people in a building, it is to have fellowship(worship) our God. Period. This reasoning of other people as fellowship has to go away to understand the true meaning of worshiping of God!)

Now, taking those three things as corrections in our understanding of our eternal purpose as God’s people, and He our God we should be able to ‘see’,’know’,’hear’,what God’s purpose for us in the world, it is that ‘WE’,All His People are His, unto all the nations, forever and ever! Praise His Name!

Has ‘OUR’ identity gotten in the way?

Do you remember back in the 80’s when the good ole saying was bantered about, this generation is the ‘ME’ generation? I wonder if it is stuck in a loop still playing?

You see, It has broadened even further from this identity, that we are now including out identity of who we ‘think’ we are. Our ‘essence’ of who we are is important to us so much, that we want it to be out front and center to be the focus of our world. Why are we doing this? Why do we perceive that the piece is greater than the whole?

I can see this in the secular world, where they are trying to stand out from the world around them, to be different. It is the natural reaction to try and find yourself and to show it off. Mankind, once it thought it was the best ruler for the world, it knew it has to continually try to prove itself to our self that it is still true.

It is when the christian community tries to follow suit with its counterpart to fit in to that mold that has got me worried. You see in the scriptures it tells us that ‘we’ have died with Christ in His death, as a man, to it’s ways and now lives in the ways of Christ and God. We are different. We are different from the World. We are not of ourselves, but of Christ.Christ was what was resurrected that day on the hill. It was something greater than the world, it was different. It was better. It was unique, it was Holy,, and it was of God.

God, chose to cancel out the human model of the world, and was/is bringing in His total and complete and Holy New Creation presiding over it himself. He is the King, we are His people, and the world is His Kingdom.

Which leads us to the christian model of our ‘identity’, as ourselves and to the world. If we are not of ourselves, we are in Christ, which would make us like him. This transformation into the ‘likeness’ of Christ/God fits very well into the beginning of the Genesis story in chapter one verse 26. We are to be the likeness of God. This is the identity that we seek as man. But it has not transposed this way, in the christian realm, it has transposed itself into the world’s likeness, a reverting back into darkness.

So, What has to change? This verse comes to mind-Romans 12.2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect…

Let me add on these other verses to strengthen the identity and image of ‘Us’ in Christi.

Romans 12.3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith

Romans 12.4 For just as we have many parts in one body and all the body’s parts do not have the same function

Romans 12.5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another.

I don’t know about you but this seems to be a identity of God that I would want to be ‘apart’ of! Our identity in Christ is one that is greater and Holier than I could ever be or create as a human. It is this one thing in ‘christianity’ that I feel that has messed up our theology and our uniqueness in the world as ‘that light’ upon the hill!

Being Christ, by being ‘IN’ Him, and He ‘IN’ Us is the formula that is missing in this world of ours!

Let me again say that our understanding of what the Cross and Resurrection was really about that has had made us go down the wrong path of God’s intention. God died for sin,re-created mankind in Christ as a ‘New Creation’ to start the Holy People, Holy Kingdom, and Holy God. All we have to do is to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Now that’s an ‘IDENTITY’!!!!!

Coming to fruition

My journey as I see it is to get to the prescribed destination, as is told to me.

1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,

New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995).

My journey as just a man trying to get from one spot to another, I will take that path that leads me to the final destination.

As a Christian Worshiping my God, the God of Israel,God of the creation I will follow the path that God has laid out for His people. God prescribed a beginning for man in his journey from the very beginning. It was described in detail in the beginning of His Word. Genesis 1-2 was blueprint for us to start with, it was the middle that has us all messed up. But we are concerned with the destination that God has laid out for us. It is in Revelation 21-22. In Rev. 21 1-3 It describes the destination of our journey with Him. God’s plan was simple yet hard to do for man. He failed miserably on trying to rule the world on his own by doing it his way.

It is when we realize that God’s design for us was instituted for us way back in Genesis with all the instructions for us to follow and live by in God’s paradigm. But God gives us a second chance by realizing that He will show us the exact same picture in the future for us to attain. it is in these verses of Revelation 21 1-3. With the highlight in verse 3 when John says ” And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of god is among men and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them.”

The highlighted verse is the destination that man should be striving for in his daily walk. It is in this walk that we have to make a startling revelation about the body of Christ. We are to do this in the ‘Heavenly’,’Godly’,’Christlike’,’Holy’, way of God’s final destination. This is not about our earthly way of doing things but of ‘in Christ’ way. We will be the Bride of Christ, She will be spotless and blameless, She will be the Bride to the Bridegroom. She will be perfect in every way. She will be ready for Him, to be taken for the Great Wedding Feast. This ‘picture’ is one that is brought out throughout the scriptures. God’s bride will be in waiting to be of the New Jerusalem.

Let’s step back for a moment, and notice some things that maybe you didn’t notice the correlations that have led to this final destination. Have you noticed that when the ‘city’ of ‘Jerusalem’ is mentioned, that this was the location of the Jewish people and their God. God’s presence was stationed in the city inside a Temple that was considered Holy, and only the High Priest was allowed in to that room. So it was also used as a reference to where you should ‘go’ to be with God. (maybe this is still being used to think that we have to go someplace to ‘be’ with God?) God was limited in this paradigm.

God wanted a different paradigm, one that would be accessible to all, and forever. He designed us so that not only would we be images of God,but we would be complete in ‘Christ’ being in us! This is the finished product of God for man. This is the picture we see in Genesis 1-2, Revelation 21-22.

Until we ‘see’ what God is directing us to the Bride of Christ in the days of His coming for us to be the body of God, not the building where we believe He is,but understand that He is ‘in us’ the Bride! This is the destination, the finished product of God for man and his creation.

God is waiting for us outside in His world, while we are in a building waiting for him to come.

Walking and talking in the City of God!

P.S. There is no Temple in Genesis 1-2 or Revelation 21-22. I wonder why that is?

Where 2 or 3 are gathered…..

I see a different body being portrayed in the years to come.

Not mine, but the body of Christ. It is being molded in a different way because of universal conditions. Let me condition this statement with a bit of clarification, I like to talk about the universal body, the body of the world of Christ’s followers. What I don’t want to do is to make a statement that is just considered a perspective from what country that I live in. This would in fact make my observations skewed in my perspective.

I believe that God has altered man’s way, a way that was going in the wrong direction, that was hampering in the way that God could be seen as the God of All. It has brought about all around the world the social scene of just being with a friend or two to socialize in the daily activities that we have. We are being subjected into the more close knit groups that we have already made in our little world’s. This is where the meat of the close reliability of our true friends can honestly be a great advantage for us to talk frankly to with each other.

Mankind has been pulled in so many directions over the last 40-50 years with social issues, governmental distrust, and just plain confusing life everyday. This may bring the family closer to each other being sequestered together more of the day, it may keep us tight with our friends that we have close by, and to just rely on them more. This change of lifestyle is going to be a life changer for alot of people, it will take away to be accustomed to and to realize that lifestyle has changed, in alot of ways.

Daily life will not be the same, it is what we do because of it that will make the difference in our lives and for ones around us. I see the pattern change to the more smaller units of people being together and socializing together. It will be the need to have the more intimate relationships of friends and family.

God describes this bonding as bonding with him, in as a few people at a time, say two or three, this would be a unit of the body that would stand on its own. God created the body as a complete unit, it is made up of small and unique individuals, groups and clusters of like minded christians. It is small and intimate being with God, that will grow and cultivate that being as Christ, in Christ, and Christlike that will cement ourselves as the body of Christ.

Let me digress here, but will be making a point to this subject. Listening to people on why they go somewhere(church) is usually the #1 reason that they go or say that the reason that they should go, is that ‘they should all be together to have fellowship with the others’, what is astounding is that it does not say anything like this in the scriptures. We are called to ‘be in Him, and He in Us’ this is the only criteria that we need. This is because ‘WE are away from Him’ now. It is this exile that exists that has kept us away from Him because we left Him. This gathering that we think we must have to be ‘labeled the Church’ is sorta funny if you think about it. We aren’t called the church until we all get in the church building? It’s like saying we are not a car until we park ourselves in the garage?!

We are, What we are, wherever you are at. God wants Us in Him,and Him in Us. It’s that simple. Let me a little word picture for you. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and it is a very beautiful city and desirable place to go for vacation with alot of things to do for entertainment for family’s. Some tourist places have a large map in their foyer with alot of push pins around the outside of the map. All visitors that come to their business can stick a push pin into the city from where they are from. When a business has been in existence for quite a few years this map can be quite full for push pins, showing from all around the world where they came from to be at this location. If you was to stand back and look at this map it will be filled almost completely with pins.

This Word Picture is exactly what the body represents to God in his intentionalality of Christ’s body. It is his oneness of all mankind each representing Him as us in Him. It is not the pin that is stuck at the church’s location, but the individual that represents Christ unto all the world.

Let us bound ourselves together in 2-3 people to bond and grow in the Lord,to challenge ourselves to have the mind of Christ, to live as Him, and be the BODY OF CHRIST!

“As the Father has sent me,…”

In John 20.21 when Jesus told his followers “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you”

What if? What if we got this statement all wrong, that we have misunderstood what Jesus was telling us?

Our recognition of what we think it means is that Jesus wants us to be sent also, as was He. But………

What if we first break down the meaning of the first half of the sentence, so we will know what the last part of the sentence means.

The Father sent Jesus to do or be what? God had a specific mission for his son to do on his creation. But what was it? From my perspective I believe that we have missed an important issue in Jesus’s coming to earth, it is that He had to become an identity to the world that they would recognize. Yes, He was a man, but he was so much more! He was God in man!! Jesus’s main goal (I believe) was to be recognized as God as the Son of God. This was going to be harder than you think to get people to believe this.

This is when context really comes into play in a story that we must realizes makes the point to what Jesus was really up against. In this age, or even for ages before the god’s have always been around, but with a slight different slant to what we would be used to. You see the ‘god’s’ were always upstairs somewhere never to show their selves to anyone, their was the imaginative imagination of what each god actually looked like(thus the ‘idol’ of such one made by man, really doesn’t make sense) and to give each one of them a description of what each god could do as a job.

Now if you were used to this scenario over the centuries with your people this would be the norm. But what if one day, a man was walking down the street and looked different, sounding different and being different than any other man walking the trail that day, there was something special about him, but you different know what. This man started to touch people who were sick, disabled, or their life was just rotten to the core, and He healed them in whatever condition the person was in. His wisdom talking to the leaders of His Priest, out surpassed them in their understanding of the Torah. Passerby’s were awe struck with his authority of men and women. The faith that they believed in Him to heal and cure their lives was astonishing.

You see God had to send His Son to earth to show the world that He was God, the Son of God. God of the creation, man, and the earth. This was his goal. It was to bring his authority back into the reality of mankind, and not him. Man’s attempt to achieve a paradise on the earth was and is a failure. God’s faithfulness, which has never left man, or in another way of putting it, God is and did keep his side of new covenant that He proposed to Man, Man had not kept his side of the covenant to God, God will bring it to a full commitment with His Son dying on the cross to kill off the man’s inability to take care of his half. Man would succumb to the liabilities of himself. Jesus becoming the ‘New Man’ of the ‘New Identity of God’ is to reign forever and ever.

Now, to answer the question at the beginning of the blog, The ‘Father has sent me’, is the defining of what God was, who He was,and what He was doing in the ‘Son of God’ on earth,as this ‘New Creation’! This is,and will be “you”,”Man”!

“,I am sending you” is the statement from Jesus that He is sending us to be the same as “Jesus” in this new creation!

We are all to be like Him in the image of God!

Observations

I am an observer. I have become over the years interested what people say and think, in whatever the circumstance I am in. I listen to people’s conversations on the street, in restaurants, in groups of friends, not just to hear them talk, but to listen to what they are ‘really’ are saying. I have veered off of my original school studies in college of Psychology, but more of a sociology angle of people. Although I was very interested in sociology in high school as well.

This leads me to my love of listening of a plethora of things and topics on Youtube. My playlist covers a gambit of topics that I have chosen to constantly be apprised on. I continually am researching and being aware of things that are currently being discussed, but also the history of things that are always being brought back up for discussion.

My most recent episode of youtube video was a production of someone that decided to venture out on a limb(which I applaud mightily) and ask three individuals of Israel and three individuals from palistine to talk in a setting to talk. The format of the discussion was set up by a host that would ask a question that they would agree or disagree on or just a question of inquiry of state of affairs between the two people. All six people would then walk over to a stool, three stools facing three other stools for a face to face discussion. They could chose to elaborate on their opinion on the question with a rebuttal coming from the other side of the discussion. It was a very civil discussion and very informative.

I have come away with two observations from this video, not about the subjects, but from a more humanity perspective. One, in the discussion after probably thru most of the discussion it came apparent from both sides that the problem of their issue, was that it was the governments on both sides were getting in the way of what the people wanted out of the whole issue. It was like if the people could talk to each other as a whole that they could come to a resolution in a matter of minutes. What was also apparent that these six people were from the opposite sides of conflict in their views, that they were not acting as an enemy after the talks, but were one on one talking with each other about various subjects that they had discussed earlier.

The second observation, was a brilliant move by the creators of this experiment( I again want to stand up and give them an ovation for what they did), their cementing of the end result of what the creators knew what would happen in their discussions of the actual participants of the parties involved, would not be going at their adversarial throats or even attacking each other in hatred. They knew the outcome!

After the questions had all been asked and discussed by all and the answers were satisfactory understood, there was a surprise to all six participants.

They were treated to a formal dinner brought in to them for them to sup together! All six of the individuals said they would enjoy the meal together! Is this just ridiculous? Two enemies sitting together and eating together as if nothing between them mattered! They were after all just eating a meal together! But what about the things that they were fighting about in the real world? They were enemies, fighting from afar and from side to side, they were standing up for their beliefs on the issues. How could this happen, people on the opposite sides, sitting down to eat together!

I want to expand on this last point with a couple of expansions of the point. One of the realities of the discussion is the intrusion of the government into the equation. It is the ulterior motives of the government that always gets in the way of things, but it is the people that are in the middle of things, that seem to not understand the fundamental needs of the people of just getting along with each other and just living their lives. For the people as a whole wish to live together in harmony.

The last point I wish to expound on is what happened at the end of the questions put on the six people of the video on youtube. The Meal.

I can’t enough say that this event is and was a powerful statement to mankind, but even more to the audience of christianity. I will now tell you that we have to go back to the New Testament and the story of Paul and Peter in Antioch of the actual historical confrontation but also the allegoric meaning of this story.

The story of Paul and his mission to the people of Antioch was the harmony of the message was the same within the gospel being taught. A key element was the justification of who was apart of the gospel? The answer was everyone. Jew and Gentile(anyone not Jewish), The chosen people were now not just for the people of Israel but of the whole world. This picture was realized in the actual sitting down with everyone involved in the gospel and eating with them. It was a cementing statement in a picture of sorts.

It is when Peter and Paul both understood this element of the gospel, and their evangelizing to all that were concerned to know the gospel. To really understand this soon to be confrontation in context we have to understand that it was Peter that was considered to be the leader of the assembly in Jerusalem, along with James.

But it is when James and a party of his men come to antioch to check on the people of antioch for themselves and see that Peter quickly arise from the table of the gentiles to sit with the jews to eat his meal that causes a scene. Paul, having seen what had happened, chastises Peter for not staying with the gentiles to eat and escaping to sit with his fellow jews. This was not the gospel! and Paul told him so.

It was almost a story within a story to this altercation. Why did Peter do what he did? Was he only standing for his convictions when he was with Paul, or did he not really believe that the gospel was just for the Jews? It was James and his party that were being put on trial in sorts because is this the way that the assembly in Jerusalem believed. This last part will have to be for a later time to delve into for a separate blog.

It is my opinion in this matter that this was a sign of Paul and Peter going their separate ways of understanding of the gospel. This matter in this story is not often really dug into for the real issues driving the story along. I honestly believe that Paul and Peter were not on the same page of the gospel. There was a divide of the gospel stemming from the ‘church’ in Jerusalem and all the other church’s, especially the ones started with Paul.

We will further talk about this story in coming blogs to maybe clear up some things between Paul and Peter.

Grass Roots

This term has been used in another field of study, but We won’t go there today.

My sense of a way of life in the new testament for the new christians of the world, were always very small in size and very unique in their living. They began by either ‘seeing’ Jesus and ‘knowing’ that He was the ‘Messiah’ that was promised by the Jews and their religion. This was known by the Jews but also by the gentiles that were coming to the tabernacle square to hear the latest word from the religious leaders and of the issues of the Roman Kingdom.

The individuals coming to the square for the news were either from the city or from the outside of the city because of the business of the person to come to Jerusalem for the day. The individuals coming from within the city walls were being curious of this Man who was claiming to be the ‘Messiah’, Son of God. It was a curiosity at first, but later it was intriguing thought to be a more thought out fact. This curiosity was then bantered about with friends who have also heard this claim to ‘Messiahship’. It is this encounter with this claim by ‘Jesus’, that sparked the discussion between friends of acquaintance or from your neighbor, or from the tabernacle square discussions that have led you to the small group of disciples.

The individuals that were coming from outside the city of Jerusalem, businessman or just travelers going thru the city on their way to somewhere else. Their stopovers would always lead them to where the latest scoop of religious and city news and notes would be discussed for the good and the bad. It is then that the traveler would hear about the news about the man that they were calling the ‘Son of God’,doing miracles of healing and of raising from the dead, and being a teacher wiser that all the teachers that they knew. This was the beginning of ‘gossip’ or things that we have heard that we must tell someone else, so that they might be also interested too. This was the beginning of another pocket of discussion back at the traveler’s home town to his friends, family and to the religious leaders of that town. It would soon become to be known as an assembly of the discussion of ‘Son of Man’.

Now if you can imagine this scenario played over and over again, with people coming and going inside and outside the city, discussing the matter of ‘Messiah’, and asking yourself if Jesus was this one, t,hat it created alot of discussion in and around the temple of the Jews, which was a threat to their authority, but also the new claim that God had sent his Son to save them from all of humanity. From the gentile perspective, this was a very confusing time with their philosophy of having a plethora of gods to take care of your needs, covering them all individually in your life, but now to be told that there was a God that was a God of all, was to much to handle.

It is these little pockets of believers that were dotting the landscape of the roman world that was changing the romans but also the Jewish leaders of Israel. They were different. They were believers in this ‘man of God’ that was going to free them from the slavery of roman hierarchy of rule and also the rule of law of the priests and of their institution.

It is this ‘Grass roots’ formation that will keep the belief alive in the coming Kingdom. It will not be the formation of the ‘Jewish’ separation of authority of ‘knowing’ God but the oneness of all, the kingdom of Priests. It will not be formation of a kingdom of mankind to rule over us as to whatever he chooses to be for us, for this too is slavery.

God will reward us for diligence of becoming that light on the hill that shines Christ to all that are around our little hill! That little hill combined with all those other ‘little’ hills will eventually be the brightest light for God! Which is exactly what He said would happen.

‘One’ in Christ

Our understanding of what it means by being one in fellowship with one another is looked at in the wrong way. It is this that has lead us down the wrong path.

We use this as our ritual of going to the building for the ‘being one with the Lord’, It is our logic to say that because we are going to this building where ‘the Holy Place’ where God is located. This concept is a holdover from the old testament that was cancelled in the new testament of ‘being in Christ’. Christ’s presence in the world was not in the temple, but was united with his creation, man.

There are two things here that work hand in hand together that will bring us to being the body of Christ. One of these things is that our perception of ‘where God is, is skewed, in that we ‘only’ see him in a building, called ‘church’. God’s desire for his people is bigger than this for one, and two, He wants to be be ‘in’ everyone of His creation. Our use of this very limited perception has hampered our awareness of ‘Our Awesome,Majestic, All Mighty, Omnipotent, Fatherly, Lovingly, God that wants to be with us in everyone and everywhere.

Secondly we must realize that the concept that God is in Us, as the image of God is never to be forgotten, or to fully understand this. We are one, we are in Christ. This is why in Eph 4.6, God tells us that He will be ‘all in all’ when we are gathered together, In Christ’s name. It is this that we must ‘see’ to know that we ‘In Christ’ when we are together, wherever we are It is in this paradigm that we can be the light unto the ‘nations’ to bring them to God.
