Paradigm change…..

Paradigm is a word that I always say is one of my favorite words to use, mainly because it is event changer! lol

I use this word for alot my illustrations in biblical senses and also in just real life occurrences. This blog I hope gets you thinking about the subject of “Paradigms”, in mainly the subject of what it actually is, and then also of if you see ‘it’ in the scriptures of the Bible.

I read alot. When I read a book that is telling a story of say a historical narrative, there are always ebbs and flows of that historical story, especially of a long one. Sometimes in the story there is a ‘Major’, or ‘surprising’, or ‘unsuspecting’ occurrence that you would of never seen coming. It is this ‘thing’ that We will be talking about.

Let’s start with what I consider the obvious one of ‘different’ boundaries in objectives that are set out for us. This one, I am talking about is the differences we see in the bible, in that, it is divided into two parts, The Old testament, and the New Testament, It is here that I believe that it is the source of misunderstanding of what it is all about. The old testament, is a story of a people under a covenant to God, The New Testament is a story about a new covenant to ‘all people’. (Note-using ‘testament’ and ‘covenant’, is key to ‘hearing’ the right story in the bible. These two words mean different things, they are not interchangeable. We must use ‘covenant’ to ‘see’ the story right.)

The old covenant had boundaries, They were for the people of Israel, they had laws to abide with, their identity was shown in their ‘eating preferences’ and of the males being circumcised, and They kept Saturday as their ‘Holy’ day of God. This covenant was the description, the identity, the sign that they were of God’s people. Upon seeing an Israelite in the market shopping for food, and their selections did not include pork and sea crustaceans, meant that they were of Jewish belief. If you did not any of your friends on friday eve, meant that they were celebrating their ‘sabbath’ in worship. It was these things that were identity markers of the Israelites in that day.

Let’s now identify the New Covenant’s identifiers. Now first I am going to show the ones that are being used in our christianity model that is prevalent today. I will then suggest something different, and righteous. Let me just start out by saying this is sorta foggy from an outside perspective looking in, but let’s give it a try. I would like to start from the street angle first. I am not sure we can ‘identify’ a ‘christian’ (as opposed to an Israelite of the old covenant) it seems that the ‘christian’ has blended in with the rest of the crowd to as they were led to believe that if I mingled with them, I would be able to ‘be’ at their level and to talk to them about ‘Jesus’ and lead them to salvation. This is a problem. But there are a few that you can tel with mannerisms or subtle talking that can deduce a ‘difference’ from the normal society. There are no markings on a ‘christian’ to distinguish that they are one. They have no selective eating habits so to speak, unless it is one of preferences. The one that is still used for identity, is the one that they ‘see’ as Holy is the ‘Day of Sunday’ as God’s Day for worship.

Standing at a street corner and looking to identifying a ‘christian’ now is very hard. Unless it is a Sunday and you are standing on the church corner.

God chose identity markers for the Israelites for a special reason. Because they stood out, they ‘were’ different to other people’s eyes and ears.

It is still relevant for the ‘New Covenant’. Our current model is not of God’s identity markers. It is of ours.

God chose one identity, It was the “Holy Spirit”, this then would be producing the Love of God, and Love to others.

Let’s look at this and why.

The Promise of the Spirit

28 “It will come about after this
     That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
29 “Even on the male and female servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

The Day of the LORD

30 “I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire and columns of smoke.
31 “The sun will be turned into darkness
     And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.
32 “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD
     Will be delivered;
For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
There will be those who escape,
     As the LORD has said,
Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.

New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1995), Joe 2:28–32.

Now, if we were walking down the street of downtown ______________, You would be astounded at these people who were filled with the Holy Spirit and their wonders and ‘Life’ that they had of their God. Their ‘identity markers’ were not of a physical or action of the flesh but one that was coming from inside their being showing what their God is!

Maybe we should rethink the Paradigm that we ‘think’ is supposed to identify us to the world, and just let the Holy Spirit of the Lord do the talking for Us!

So, What do you say? Ready for a Paradigm shift!!

Identity

It’s all about who we are.

“Miracle on Ice” movie was a very moving, exciting, rush of emotions for everyone involved in it and for the United States people. It is must watch movie for alot of reasons. I strongly suggest you check it out sometime.

movie was the story of the U.S. going about getting a team together for the olympics for the Winter of 1980. This time things were going to be different in alot of ways. A new coach. New players. A new strategy,A new mindset.

It started when the picking the new coach, it was not going to be a Professional Hockey coach, for which He would have years of experience of coaching experienced players of professional ranks. It would be a college coach of hockey. Along with a pro coach would come the pro players for the team. This was in demand to keep up with the Soviets, who had a long standing coach of many years and the same players for every olympics working together knowing what each player was known for. It was a complete team, a tenured coach, a tenured team. It was a brick wall.

It was when Herb Brooks, a college coach, played by Kurt Russell in the movie, stood his ground on his way of doing things, and I mean everything. A committee of advisors would usually advise the olympic coach on who would be good for the olympic teams as a rule, but it was not to be so this time. Kurt Russell being the coach, told the committee that he would pick his own team. and He did.

Kurt picked guys that he had personally seen in action in the college arena that he knew their strengths and weaknesses, He knew his own team personnel and he knew every other team as well. He was the master evaluator of the players personal and work ethics. He picked his team.

It is now that I would like to bring out my amazing point. Remember now that the coach picked his team, some from his own team, but alot of guys from other teams, sort of a mixed bag of candy to work with.

A new coach, new players, new strategy, what could go wrong?

Herb was smart. He knew it wasn’t about getting the players to know the plays, but it was about getting them on the right page. So he started.

It was all about getting all the players in knowing who they were playing for.

Herb went around the rink asking the players who they were and who they played for. It was moment to shine for the players in their own way. It was a moment.

It was then that all Hell broke loose, in metaphor and in reality.

A normal practice drill is for strengthening endurance which was to go from the end line of the rink to the blue line then to the mid court line then to the opposite end line, multiple times for practice in a normal day. But this wasn’t a normal practice. It was going to be life changing!

Herb utilized this drill to extreme. It was something deeper for herb that he was going for. It was the reality for all the players to figure out who they were. So, herb started this drill of skating the arena, three times,5 times,10 times, maybe 20 times before the reality of one brave soul caught on the intention of herb, it was who they are and who they play for!

This was a momentous moment in the unity of the team, they weren’t joe from this university, or jack from this university. No, they were a united team that was from the united states, and they were representing the United States in the Olympics.

They had an ‘identity’.

I believe that this is the situation of the body of Christ. We have no identity. We saying we are the church, but we don’t act like it. We are not ‘in’ or ‘of’ Christ.

There is a misunderstanding of what this is. If we are ‘in’ Christ, we must realize that this is in a different realm of things, it is not of the human ways, it is God’s ways, it is a spiritual one. The paradigm of God is one that is way beyond our reasoning and wisdom. It is when we are ‘in’ Christ that we are different. In Every Way! This is a different Realm, a different reality. It is God’s reality. Not ours.

God’s eternal purpose is intentional, it is planned. God’s eternal life is in His Life. This is what makes it eternal. Our lives although was sacred in the making in the Garden of Eden, was still ‘of this world’, we were made from the clay of this earth. God’s rectifying all the previous issues of the world, it is when God fulfills his wisdom and gives us the complete package of salvation from this world that we are ‘in’ and of Christ. We are different. We are of Christ. We have the qualities of Christ. Not of this world.

Our identity is ‘In Christ’.

Has ‘OUR’ identity gotten in the way?

Do you remember back in the 80’s when the good ole saying was bantered about, this generation is the ‘ME’ generation? I wonder if it is stuck in a loop still playing?

You see, It has broadened even further from this identity, that we are now including out identity of who we ‘think’ we are. Our ‘essence’ of who we are is important to us so much, that we want it to be out front and center to be the focus of our world. Why are we doing this? Why do we perceive that the piece is greater than the whole?

I can see this in the secular world, where they are trying to stand out from the world around them, to be different. It is the natural reaction to try and find yourself and to show it off. Mankind, once it thought it was the best ruler for the world, it knew it has to continually try to prove itself to our self that it is still true.

It is when the christian community tries to follow suit with its counterpart to fit in to that mold that has got me worried. You see in the scriptures it tells us that ‘we’ have died with Christ in His death, as a man, to it’s ways and now lives in the ways of Christ and God. We are different. We are different from the World. We are not of ourselves, but of Christ.Christ was what was resurrected that day on the hill. It was something greater than the world, it was different. It was better. It was unique, it was Holy,, and it was of God.

God, chose to cancel out the human model of the world, and was/is bringing in His total and complete and Holy New Creation presiding over it himself. He is the King, we are His people, and the world is His Kingdom.

Which leads us to the christian model of our ‘identity’, as ourselves and to the world. If we are not of ourselves, we are in Christ, which would make us like him. This transformation into the ‘likeness’ of Christ/God fits very well into the beginning of the Genesis story in chapter one verse 26. We are to be the likeness of God. This is the identity that we seek as man. But it has not transposed this way, in the christian realm, it has transposed itself into the world’s likeness, a reverting back into darkness.

So, What has to change? This verse comes to mind-Romans 12.2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect…

Let me add on these other verses to strengthen the identity and image of ‘Us’ in Christi.

Romans 12.3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith

Romans 12.4 For just as we have many parts in one body and all the body’s parts do not have the same function

Romans 12.5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another.

I don’t know about you but this seems to be a identity of God that I would want to be ‘apart’ of! Our identity in Christ is one that is greater and Holier than I could ever be or create as a human. It is this one thing in ‘christianity’ that I feel that has messed up our theology and our uniqueness in the world as ‘that light’ upon the hill!

Being Christ, by being ‘IN’ Him, and He ‘IN’ Us is the formula that is missing in this world of ours!

Let me again say that our understanding of what the Cross and Resurrection was really about that has had made us go down the wrong path of God’s intention. God died for sin,re-created mankind in Christ as a ‘New Creation’ to start the Holy People, Holy Kingdom, and Holy God. All we have to do is to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Now that’s an ‘IDENTITY’!!!!!

Identity?

When does something become something?

I was listening to a debate yesterday over a christian theology matter(subject is irrelevant for this topic),when I pondered the identity of when does something become something?( once we knew this we will be able to use this for everything, and I mean everything)

Does something become ‘real’ when I plan to make something in my head? Does it become real when I have started on the project in the early phases of building? What if I make it, then decide to make it differently? What if I just make it wrong that it isn’t what I wanted it to be? Do I have to wait til the project is done, and done right accordingly to me to be what I said it was going to be?

This is confusing! There seems to be more variables after the concept is conceived than just coming from the possibility of the said idea was formed! Do you know what I am saying?

Is it something just because of the possibility of becoming something?

Or is it a possibility just because I have the ability to make the said thing possible?

I have taken this road to weirdness, to come at something from a different angle!

The ‘Trinity’, Father,Son(Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. I believe in it.

I believe that the Trinity was,is,will be forever. period.

So by saying this, We can say that They ‘have been’ forever.

So by saying this, We can say that They ‘are’ now.

So by saying this, We can say that They ‘will be’ forever.

So they by ‘being’ at anytime, could and have been anything they desired.

They could be anything that was within themselves, just by the ‘thought’ of it, without acting on it.

or saying it!

God is unlimited in himself,God is everything in everything!

Jesus also is unlimited in himself, Jesus is everything in everything!

Holy Spirit is unlimited in himself, Holy Spirit is everything in everything!

This could be confusing, for the christian today, let alone for the average joe on the street to understand. But here me out.

God,Jesus,Holy Spirit are within themselves,(they are what they are) But they are also within the other’s identity.

They are three but one.

Now this all by it’s self could be a great study of the word. But it is not where I was laying the foundation.

It is the fact that ‘ALL’ things come from this ‘Paradigm’ of God. It is the reality that from these three identities of God that we have gotten alot of things. (We know this because we have seen history)

We have seen a Universe, planets, stars, earth, moons, man, animals, vegetation, women, son of man, ekklesia, Life, death,Love, suffering, healing, joy, hatred, Heaven, Kingdom of God, creations from God to us. (The list could go on for about a thousand years, so I will stop here)

The picture that I am trying to paint is the one that within God’s essence comes the first of everything, He is the Almighty. It is thru Him that comes everything.

So by this I will say that something becomes something just because God is God.
