Oh My!

Bible is amazing! I am daily ‘seeing’ things in my reading or listening to scripture. I will sometime listen to someone on a certain subject and there is another tidbit of insight to something else I may have been studying and it pieces them together to make it understood!

I in this year have seen or heard alot more of this in everything that I do, it is letting me take everything in to consideration when I am studying. I came across something today, that did exactly that for me. I am always bringing something up in a biblical or a worldly manner that tie each other together to form God’s hand in His eternal purpose for Us!

What I also have perceived that christians have failed in their responsibility to ‘know’ the scriptures. I am a believer in the Corporate identity of God’s people, but I also see the individualism or of small groups deeply studying the word. We have failed to ‘see’ things in the scripture, just as the Pharisee’s, or the scribes did not actually ‘knowing’ what the word means into what God is really about or what He was really doing in the lives of the Jews and the gentiles.

I believe that the train has left the station and is getting up to speed to make it to it’s destination! Hallelujah!! Let us strive for Wisdom in God to continue this Journey!!

One step further

You always hear people exclaim when telling scripture to prove a point to someone in discussions, but what if we take it ‘one step further’, to make it really clear, to all of us!

We all seem to know that ‘passage’ in the bible that will prove your point to someone, it’s always handy to have in a discussion. What the significance of the verse is that it alone can put the brakes on something that is being touted by someone in your discussions. It is also true that your counterpart can do the same thing to you also.

So who is right?

I, through various reading material, it has dawned on me that it is because ‘we’ (all of us) are not starting on page one together! What I mean by that, is that we are coming from different stories, examples, people, periods of time, languages, backgrounds, and theologies, and we are starting from ‘our’ base point for telling the story, or scripture.

What time has corroded over the centuries on our theology of God and the Bible has done harm on our understanding God and the Bible. I read all kinds of subject matter pertaining to religion, christianity, and the bible, and for the most part, it all starts from the time of Constantine in the 4th Century in our belief systems or our historical prowess of facts. We have used the Universal Church(Roman Catholic) and its rebellious Lutheran to get us to today. (Which I have always thought that from a religious point, we were starting from the middle of the story) All of our denominations have come from the starting point from the universal church. (Which in my opinion is based on something very misleading and misunderstood to its originality of a ‘church’)

I follow a theologian that says it quite succinctly in the problem that the modern ‘church’ is doing, and that is we are asking the wrong questions. We are asking questions to the middle of the story, when we should looking and thinking what God’s story is telling us from the beginning. God’s story is a narrative. Narrative- a spoken or written account of connected events; a story. There is meaning in a narrative story from the author, it doesn’t change or waver, it stays the same, no matter what.

There is a theme in the first two chapters of the bible. A tragedy happens, then the resumption of the theme starts back up, to the very end of the narrative. Until we get on the same page, the first two pages to be exact, we will never get to the point of why we have to have “Context”!

If we have Context from the first two pages of the Bible, it will not only stay in context thru out the bible, put the focus of the story will come to light to All of Us!!

Buellor,Buellor?

Everyone in the U.S. should know who this is in reference too. But for those who don’t, it is from a movie where a high school student is always skipping class from this one teacher to do things that he would rather do, than go to his class.

Just thought I would throw this out to all who follow the blog if you have any questions or topics you would like me to write about or would like any information on biblical topics, or discussions on anything related to these things. Finding out what everyone is coming from in their experiences to the bible or to following God in his eternal purpose is always interesting to me to hear how people know the Lord.

Just comment on one of the blogs and I will answer back or we can just get a conversation going to find where we stand. I would really like to hear from people from all around the world to what they believe and why. So let me know, Let’s chat!!

Your friend in Christ, Doug

Why do you believe?

If you don’t ask yourself this on a regular basis, you need too!

You need to confirm to yourself that this is exactly what you believe and why. This is should be an affirmation to your faith in God. This is daily thing. God’s eternal purpose has traveled down a winding road thru many a centuries to get His blueprint down to us and all of mankind. God has worked thru many people, many leaders, many enemies to get us to where we are now.

God is in control. God has created man, God has put up with man’s rebellion, man’s inability to work with God and live up to his potential. God’s image has taken over itself as a life of its own. We have made our own world, our own rules and our own lives.

This is a road that alot of us have taken. But it is when we sit back and look at God and His purpose and we try to see what God has in store for us that we realize that It was a hard road but it was an easy one. We have to not really rest on our laurels and ‘seek’ out him in all our ways. This is just not about our taking up the gauntlet of our forefathers, but seek him out for ourselves as if was brand new and fresh. Questions need to be asked all over again.

Who is our creator?

Why did He create us?

What is an Image Of God?

Who is an Image of God?

What is our vocation?

What is the body of Christ?

What is the Kingdom of God?

Who is the World?

What is Love?

Why Me?

These are some things worth our time to think on, these things are an macro view of God’s eternal purpose. We are the players in this drama of life and times of God’s people. We are important to the story, all of us.

One thing that has got to change in our very acute way of thinking about God, this story is about Him, his all saving Grace for his creation and His Kingdom. We have seem to think that it is us that sets the rules and regulations on when are where we do things for this or that. God’s Kingdom does not work like that. God’s ways are simple- Love me, Love your neighbor. This is God’s Kingdom, five simple words.

It is time to get out of that box that we worship in and also the thinking box to actually ‘see’ what God really is!

He cannot be confined. He is everywhere, everywhere we are, He is there also. This is the story of Genesis 1-2 and Revelation 21-22.

How do you ‘see’ the scriptures?

I might be all over the place with this blog, I’m feeling like I need to point out alot of things to everyone! Yes, it’s my turn! lol

My life’s journey has brought me thru alot of things and places because of my heritage thru my fathers’ line of work. You see he was a pastor for all his life and it took our family to some different cities and different states. Which I enjoyed them all as a kid, I didn’t know anything else but to enjoy it. It was a adventure to me as just a new place to check out.

It is in this adventure that I have looked back and tried to surmise the things that my father was doing as a pastor to people. Now, being old as I am I have forgotten some things that occurred or where they happened but their are things that have stuck out in my memories whether they be bad or good, they have. The memories that I have are the ones that were of my father, and my mother that were of the ‘teacher’ method of shepherding people. Let me say at the outset that I believe that this method of ‘teacher’ was the correct mode of said ‘pastor’, but I fear that it was all in vain, because this way was shallow in it’s presentation. What I have seen and read of various authors, pastors, evangelist’s, is that there was a ‘Theology’ first, then a foundation of scripture that fit the scenario. This is backwards.

It is the scripture that should create our understanding of God. This is the model which should of been emphasized from the very early beginning. The good news is that it seems that this is starting to come out thru the works of alot of theologians who have put in tireless work in digging out the storyline of the bible. It doesn’t come out easy, it is searching for God’s work in everything that He orchestrates thru his hands. But it is making a difference in how we see the bible as the word of God, and his people.(for more information on this, just make a comment to me at the end)

Another thing that is closely tied to this is the failure of the previous story, and even now, that there was and is a failure of the people of God that are failing to read and ‘know’ the scriptures! I don’t know for sure what the reason is, behind this, but I have a few. Lazy on the individual, lazy to know the pastor will tell them sunday, I have heard it before, read all the stories in the bible, doesn’t pertain to me, and the list goes on. People have not, and were not told of the storyline of the scriptures from day one of their interest in God. This is major flaw of christianity to the world. We have not presented the God of our World to the people in the right way.

Our way was to tell the stories of all the great people of the bible and their stories, to impress them of such great men or women to loft up our God and his purpose. But that is to shallow. God started from the beginning, Genesis to start this journey and a blueprint of what God was going to do in the now, and the latter. In which the now and the latter were the same. Compare Genesis 1-2 with Revelation 21-22. God’s book should be read and ‘known’ from beginning to end. There is storyline, WE HAVE TO FOLLOW IT! The New Testament(covenant, I prefer) is the continuation from the Old Testament(old covenant). This brings out the biblical thought with using Covenant, instead of ‘Testament’.

I would recommend to people to get a few people together and start in genesis and just get a fresh perspective on how God has put very specific things into place and also people to make his story come alive for us. Go slow and methodical, to ‘see’ God’s design of his people and his Kingdom.

You might have a revelation in doing it this way by realizing that ‘we’ can all become ‘one’ in our ‘knowing’ and ‘seeing’ God, and not be split in our ways as we are now!

My People

14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (2 Ch 7:14).

If my friend joe, fred, suzy, betty, anthony, debbie, george, etc would humble themselves and pray and seek my face…….

The latter verse is one that I feel that is what is read into the scriptures so that our theology jives with what we think and do. This concept or paradigm is one that has been in use or believed in for over 1500 yrs with adverse effects other than the obvious.

It is the previous statement of verse 14 of 2 chronicles chapter 7 that says “if my people”…… . This verse is the plural or corporate expression of God’s people. The plural of God’s expression of His Love for man has always been this way. All thru the bible God’s concern was to restore mankind to it’s former self.

This is the paradigm in which we must work with in our theology, God is Love, Love trumps everything.

See,hear

I believe God is pretty awesome. It is mankind that needs a little help.

I have in previous posts have reiterated that in studying the word, that we cannot look at God’s words and see black and white. This is usually a good thing in most instances, but for the written words of the scriptures we need to ‘see’ God’s intent, and also his son’s,Jesus. Is it any wonder that God’s son, Jesus spoke in parables(Jesus only saying things from his Father) for man to not go strictly by the black and white words but to contemplate in the meaning(hear) of God’s understanding of man and his world and their purpose.

To ‘see’ and to ‘hear’ address this issue in the scriptures when used by God and by Jesus. It is the next level up from the natural sense of man, it is God’s ‘see’ and God’s ‘hear’, this is also what God means by Wisdom.

Until we are in-tune with God, this will be the same as usual, man going by the law(written word) as opposed to the dwelling of God in us,and us in God.

How did you learn?

Is it just assumed on how you came to knowing your theology of the bible? Have you ever had discussions in church or at home with friends on topics that may go against the beliefs of the denomination you attend? Does this change your overall belief in your theology? Have you ever had discussions with family members on different beliefs? Do you read, see, listen to other avenues of theology?

Have you ever church hopped? Going to different church’s away from your denomination? What was the experience? Was it the same, different, in what way? Why was it? It is a ‘church’. What did you need to see different in the church? People,Minister,Songs,Atmosphere, Routine, Programs, Why is this necessary,if all people in church are ‘God’s people’?

These are things that need to be asked and answered to see where we are at as God’s people. If all these things do not matter, it is what God’s design that does matter. This ‘paradigm’ of institutional people then is wrong! Our theology is wrong. Our beliefs are wrong. We are wrong.

Knowing history, knowing christian history is key to knowing how, why, when, where things changed to be ‘christianity’ as God ordained it to be. It is for us to study, read, absorb this knowledge of God’s work in previous generations before us. Taking things for granted is not wise for anything.

Until we read what was said as witnesses of the whole bible of God’s divine and eternal purpose for us and ‘SEE’ what it is, we should not ‘just’ go to a building and assume that we are doing the ‘right’ thing about being there!

I challenge you to re-read the scriptures from beginning to end, slowly soaking it in and knowing what it is really saying, not just the words or saying of the words but the forrest despite the tree in front of you. There is a storyline to the scriptures, This is what God had in mind all along, we just have to see it. Please don’t just pick one climactic moment to use and build thing around it, this is just wrong.(Alot of beliefs are built in christianity like this and it is not right) Everything is interlocking in God’s words to spell out a amazing story for us to know and believe.

The first step to this, is the hardest, you must be free from outside interference of what you have been accustomed too. Take six months to a year to start from scratch, and read the scriptures with out any preconceived notions from anything or anyone. But this might be hard in that you really have go to be focused in reading the word daily, weekly it is with this that you ‘will be’ in communion with the Lord in his ways.

This will give you will some amazing moments with God and looking at scriptures that will last forever in your journey with him. You will not regret it. Trust me, Trust God.
